Attorney, Senior Litigation Counsel

Attorney Angel E. Portilla joined the legal profession in order to promote social change, justice and accountability through the practice of law. Angel is the Managing Attorney at the Farrell, Patel, Jomarr6n & Lopez Puerto Rico Branch Office. He leads a team of talented and committed attorneys and staff who assist claimant$ that suffered the brunt of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill as well as the natural disasters in Puerto Rico and who are responsible for successfully recovering millions of dollars in claims. Angel has also been involved in a series of other complex litigation cases ranging from anti-trust, torts, and contracts law. Along with Ricky Patel, Angel participated in multiple humanitarian missions around Puerto Rico to bring aid to people affected by Hurricane Maria, reaching hundreds of families all over Puerto Rico who were in desperate need of assistance.

Angel graduated with honors in 2010 from the Inter-american University of Puerto Rico earning his Bachelors in Business Administration with a Major in Accounting. He was recognized in 2009 with the Dean’s List of Academic Excellence, after obtaining one of the highest grades in their Business Administration program. Obtained his law degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, where he also graduated with honors and served as a Representative and Treasurer of the Student Council. As a law student, Angel participated as a pro bono student attorney in the University of Puerto Rico Legal Clinic assisting indigent citizens in a variety of cases where he logged hundreds of hours in pro bono work.

Angel served as a legislative aide to the President of the Commission of Housing and Urban Development of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, where he collaborated in the preparation of legislation to tackle the mortgage crisis in Puerto Rico amongst other projects to alleviate the current economic crisis in the island. As a legislative aid Angel also assisted in the drafting of legislation to expand access to affordable housing in Puerto Rico as well as legislation which recognized additional rights to temporary employees. Angel is a licensed legal practitioner and public notary in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
